Strings, bridge, fingerboard, pegs, chinrest, tailpiece,
have all been adapted on the instrument by the luthier.
The violin family hasn't changed much over the past 300 years,
however, during the same period it has seen a great evolution
of its accessories and equipment.

This reflects the musical evolution of that period.
Technological progress in string making has improved sound projection, and the ability to tune easier and more accurately.
Playing had been made much more comfortable with the invention of the chinrest and the endpin.
The choice of accessories contributes to the sound and to the aesthetics of the instrument.
Accessories have an uppermost mechanical function to fill, or else the instrument won't work properly. A bad fitted peg ? Then it becomes impossible to play in tune.
Fittings are a direct link between the musician and the instrument. They are the sensible interface, since if the musician doesn't find this contact, he would have difficulty to express his soul.
